Updated: May 31

If you cower in fear at every blow of the wind, Alan Wake 2 is not for you. This upcoming survival horror game by Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games is set in the Pacific Northwest. It is a sequel to the original Alan Wake game.

Players will have the opportunity to continue their spine-chilling adventure in this new installment. Scheduled for release on October 17, 2023, players can expect a heart-pumping experience as they navigate through the dark with only a flashlight to guide them. If you're brave enough to face your fears, then Alan Wake 2 will take you on a thrill of a lifetime.

The Alan Wake 2 Story

Alan Wake 2 is a chilling experience with a frighteningly good storyline. The main story follows Alan Wake, with a secondary, equally important story following Saga Anderson. The long-awaited sequel is Alan Wake's first true entry into the survival horror genre. The first game is considered more of an action game with horror elements.

The Story of Alan Wake

In 2010, the disappearance of Alan Wake, a renowned writer from New York City, made headlines. During a holiday trip to the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Alice Wake, he encountered otherworldly darkness that materialized from his own horror novel.

Despite the odds, he confronted and defeated this evil force, exiling it to a sinister realm beneath a caldera lake near the small town of Bright Falls. By penning a conclusion to his frightening tale, he liberated his spouse from the clutches of the abyss but found himself ensnared within its depths.

Did you know that Alan Wake is still kicking, even though he's been stuck in the Dark Place for 13 years? He's living out all his worst fears and nightmares and trying to figure out a way to escape. Poor guy's been struggling to stay sane and devise a plan, but he hasn't had much luck yet.

The Story of Saga Anderson

Saga Anderson, a skilled FBI agent known for cracking challenging cases, is assigned to investigate a series of ritualistic killings in Bright Falls, a small town in the Pacific Northwest.

Anderson's situation turns into a dreadful experience as she unearths pages of a terrifying tale that begin to materialize in her surroundings, indicating unsettling connections to Alan Wake, an author who disappeared from the region more than ten years ago.

Where Is Alan Wake 2 Located?

Alan Wake 2 returns to the Pacific Northwest, where the mystery continues to unfold. Players will spend most of their time between Bright Falls and The Dark Place, hoping to free Alan from his hellish nightmare.

The Pacific Northwest

Washington State, located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, boasts breathtaking, beautiful, and mysterious landscapes. The dark woods, forested valleys, and foggy mountains lend an eerie and primordial quality to the region's natural beauty.

There is something hauntingly enigmatic about these landscapes that draw visitors from all over the world. From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Rainier to the rugged coastline of Olympic National Park, Washington State offers a diverse range of natural wonders waiting to be explored.

There are three distinct locations to explore in the Pacific Northwest region.

Bright Falls, a charming and picturesque town, hosts the yearly Deerfest and is also the location of the breathtaking Cauldron Lake. This caldera lake is a prominent landmark.

Near Bright Falls lies Watery, a dilapidated city established by Finnish immigrants drawn to the logging and fishing trade. Despite being a popular hiking spot in the past, Cauldron Lake has gained notoriety as an area to steer clear of since an unknown government agency fenced it off many years ago.

The Dark Place

Beneath Cauldron Lake lies a frightening and obscure reality known as the Dark Place. It functions based on the logic of dreams, constantly changing and repeating itself, taking on the appearance dictated by the thoughts of anyone who encounters it.

Alan Wake finds himself imprisoned in its abyss, his anxieties and tales coming to life before his eyes. In the past, Wake wrote novels about crimes in New York City; presently, the Dark Place has transformed into a distorted version of a nighttime New York.

Alan Wake 2 Is Digital Only

There are various reasons for this shift towards digital-only gaming. Firstly, many consoles, such as the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series S, are now available without disc drives.

Secondly, releasing modern games exclusively in digital format is becoming increasingly common.

Additionally, Offering games only in digital form helps to maintain a steady price point of $59.99 / €59.99 for console versions and $49.99 / €49.99 for PC versions.

Lastly, the developers also opted against producing a disc-based product requiring additional downloads for the game - an experience they believe would be less than ideal for gamers.
