  • How Long Do Games Stay On Game Pass? - What You Need To Know

Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service allowing subscribers to play over 400 games on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Cloud Gaming. The service enables players to access the titles as long as they're subscribers. Some games, however, don't stay on Xbox Game Pass forever. Games are added to the Game Pass library periodically. Still, they are also removed, like how Netflix adds and removes shows and movies over time. Games removed from the Xbox Game Pass catalog typically do so because their publisher's contract with Microsoft has expired. Games may sometimes be delisted due to quality issues or player feedback. When a game is delisted from Xbox Game Pass, subscribers will no longer have access to it but can still purchase it if they wish. The publishers may also want their games available for a specific amount of time, either to make deals with other subscription services or negotiate with Microsoft if their game becomes popular on Game Pass. Many games from Microsoft Studios and Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda Games are available forever on Game Pass. Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon have been on Game Pass since day one. What is Xbox Game Pass? Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that offers gamers an array of video games. Additionally, some games on Xbox Game Pass have a limited time in the library and may be removed. When do games leave Game Pass? With Game Pass, most games don't stay forever. The games typically leave Game Pass on the 15th and the last day of every month. Games typically stay on Game Pass for 12 to 18 months. Still, it varies depending on certain factors such as popularity, exclusivity, licensing issues, and developer priorities. The stay time could range from 3 months for games like GTA to an indefinite period for first-party Microsoft games like Gears and Forza. Xbox provides a monthly list of games, leaving Game Pass to keep players informed. This ensures you know when your favorite game is about to leave, giving you ample time to play and complete it. Players can check out the Xbox News Wire site for updates on upcoming games and games leaving the service. How do I know when games will be leaving Game Pass? The Game Pass and Xbox apps are the best options for seeing games that are leaving soon. The Xbox app has a Game Pass dashboard where one section is titled "Leaving Soon." This section lists all the games that are leaving in the next one to two weeks. Do any games stay on Game Pass forever? In general, the duration of games available on Game Pass is approximately one to one and a half years. However, there are exceptions where specific titles, such as Halo and Starfield from Microsoft's first-party lineup, may remain on the service for an extended period. • What Is An RTS Game? Find Out With Our Comprehensive Guide

You've played your fair share of real-time strategy (RTS) games, right? But what exactly is an RTS game? In short, an RTS game is a strategy game in which players control units and structures in real time. Unlike turn-based strategy games (like Civilization), there is no waiting – the action keeps going. Be ready to make lightning-fast decisions because every second matters in an RTS game. So, what is an RTS game? Let's find out! In this comprehensive guide, I will go over the basics of an RTS game and share some examples of popular examples. History of Real-Time Strategy Real-time Strategy (RTS) is a genre of video games where game events happen in real-time. The term was coined by Brett Sperry in 1992. Strategy video games have been around since 1983, with games like Stonkers by John Gibson for the ZX Spectrum. RTS games, however, go beyond just strategy games and offer more than that. Turn-based games have been around for thousands of years. Think of cards, board games, and Chess as games where players take turns to advance to the end. RTS games are much newer, having been around since the 1980s. Maybe we could go back further and call "Hide and Seek" an old-fashioned real-time strategy game, but let's not bother. Somebody perfected the formula in the '90s and early 2000s with games like Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis and StarCraft, two of the most iconic games in the real-time strategy genre. Space RTS games like Stellaris and Dune 2 are some of the most popular games of this genre. Similar to how publishers shifted away from specialized genres, licensed games followed suit. Rather than developing a real-time strategy Star Wars game, they preferred to repackage it as an FPS or MMORPG, as these genres have a larger market. Consequently, this posed two challenges for the genre: it became challenging for RTS games to establish and maintain communities, and it also became difficult for new games to enter the market and achieve success. The increasing popularity of competitive gaming has driven players back to real-time strategy games. For gamers, real-time strategy has a distinct advantage over turn-based strategy games because it provides more dynamic gameplay and more opportunities to influence the game's outcome. Gameplay Real-time strategy games are a genre of video games that revolves around the gameplay of making strategic decisions and managing resources and units in real-time. Real-time strategy games demand skilled and strategic players who decide quickly. Gamers who like precision prefer them. These games are popular, fast-paced, and need quick reflexes and sharp thinking. Real-time strategy games are played in real-time. Players act together and must react fast, manage well, and use resources wisely. It's crucial to manage your resources to create more units and buildings. You can also research various technologies to gain an advantage over your opponents. These games are challenging, requiring skill and strategic thinking, which can be difficult for casual players who enjoy esports. Managing at the micro and macro levels To succeed in real-time strategy (RTS) games, players must have good micromanagement and macro-management skills regarding resources and units. It's important to balance individual unit management with game-wide economy management. Micromanagement involves carefully managing individual units and resources, while macro management involves overseeing economic expansion and large-scale maneuvering. Players must use tactics like flanking, ambushes, and guerrilla warfare to win. RTS games can be challenging because they require high levels of strategy and skill. Turn-based vs. real-time strategy Real-time strategy games require players to make strategic decisions and manage resources and units in real-time. RTS games typically involve: Building and managing a base. Gathering resources. Training units. Engaging in battles against other players or AI opponents. The gameplay of real-time strategy games has surpassed the popularity of turn-based strategy computer games due to their fast-paced nature and smaller learning curve. Turn-based strategy games require a player to make a series of turn-by-turn decisions. In contrast, real-time strategy games allow players to make simultaneous decisions. Due to the fast-paced gameplay of real-time strategy games, they are often more engaging than turn-based strategy games. Strategy and tactics Real-time strategy games involve making real-time decisions and managing resources in real-time instead of turn-based strategy games, where gameplay consists of making decisions at intervals. In real-time strategy games, players must decide how to deploy their military units on a battlefield. An RTS game involves various units that can be controlled by humans or machines. These units include tanks, aircraft, and submarines. In such games, tactics usually involve micromanagement of units during battles. To win these games, players require high-level strategies and long-term planning for resource management. RTS games have either more strategy or tactics, depending on the genre and style of play. For example, "Starcraft" needs fast reactions, while "Civilization" requires strategic thinking. To rush or not to rush In real-time strategy games, players often use "rushes," where they try to gain an advantage over the opponent as quickly as possible. One of the common strategies for doing so is to produce a large amount of a relatively powerful but inexpensive unit and throw it at the opposition before they have had time to establish defenses or production. While rushing can be a helpful strategy in real-time strategy games, criticism has been that it encourages overwhelming force over strategy and tactics. Some games have been designed with supply and resource management as an integral part of gameplay to combat this issue. For example, the Hegemony series made supply and resource management an essential part of its gameplay to deter rushing strategies. RTS Gameplay Management Real-time strategy games require players to manage resources, units, and structures in real-time. The gameplay of RTS games comprises a series of gameplay phases, such as resource gathering, unit production, unit movement, structure building, and game-ending attacks. In real-time strategy games, players must balance the economic output of resource gathering with the military build-up of unit production. Players must also balance the time spent on non-gameplay-related activities like building structures and researching technologies. Players must use flanking, ambushing, and guerrilla warfare tactics to win a real-time strategy game. The game's objective varies from game to game. Still, the general goal of real-time strategy games is to build a robust base and army while disrupting the enemy's resources and army. Players must micromanage their resources, military units, building construction, new technology investigation, and diplomacy to accomplish this. Resource Management RTS games often require players to manage many units simultaneously in real-time, requiring a focus on reaction time and micromanagement. To effectively manage these units, players must ensure they use the suitable unit for the right job and efficiently use their resources. Resources in RTS games can often be found in the game world or produced by buildings, and they are used as currency to train units and purchase upgrades. Resource management is vital in RTS games. It involves finding and using resources to support gameplay. Players must balance between spending resources on new units or upgrades. You need to monitor available resources and production to avoid running out. Building Management Real-time strategy games have a vital gameplay element known as building management. This involves creating and updating military and civilian facilities. Various buildings, including unit production and defense structures, are used for different purposes. Units-producing buildings are typically assigned to a specific unit type for ease of control by the player. Thanks to automation, player attention is then focused on commanding and controlling one unit type rather than managing many building types. Resource management is also crucial in RTS games. Resources can be distributed around the game world or produced by certain buildings. The amount of resources a player has at a given time is critical, as it determines how many units and structures they can command and build. Real-time strategy games require macroscopic management of large groups of units, and players must make split-second decisions to outmaneuver opponents. Unit Management RTS games are games where players control units in real time. They have four main elements: units, buildings, technologies, and resources. Units can be assigned tasks such as gathering resources or attacking enemies. Buildings research technologies and train units while technologies improve stats. The aim is to outmaneuver opponents to achieve victory by considering unit types, building placement, and gameplay strategy. Building management is central to RTS games since new buildings give you economic and defensive advantages and access to new and better units. Military buildings usually include military unit production and defensive structures. In contrast, civilian buildings can consist of government, resource gathering, housing, and tech-research facilities. Technology Research In an RTS game, there are four key elements, units, buildings, technologies, and resources, that somebody must carefully balance to succeed. RTS games have a range of gameplay mechanics and strategies, with different players seeking out different play styles. The most popular RTS game series include StarCraft, Company of Heroes, and World of Tanks. The best performers in these games have earned millions of dollars through tournaments and professional competitions. Top RTS Games RTS games, or real-time strategy games, are all about strategy and planning. They involve classic elements like managing resources, building bases, commanding units, and progressing in real-time alongside other players. Playing an RTS game can make you feel powerful and in charge. Unlike turn-based games, all players go at the same time, making gameplay fast-paced and engaging. These games are typically played online with other players through connected servers. That's why I've put together this guide, so you can quickly and easily find all the Game Pass games with Ray tracing. Ray tracing (rt) is a computerized lighting technique that has been around for decades in the movie animation industry. Generating "rays" in real time is complex and resource-intensive, so not until recently have we seen this fantastic technology applied to games. I have Game Pass, and I enjoy paying for the service. I like to get the best out of my games, and playing something with more realism is always worth a shot. I compiled a list of all the games on Xbox Game Pass that support ray tracing somehow. I left out the games that needed to be hacked or modded to achieve ray tracing, such as Doom (1993), Quake, and Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020). The games listed are for the PC, but I will point out if an Xbox Series X|S version supports ray tracing (I'll even include PlayStation 5 support for fun). I wasn't able to test all of these games myself. The games I did test were with an Nvidia RTX 3060. The list of ray tracing games continues to grow. Some offer minimal differences, while others completely change how the gameplay looks and feels. Real-time ray tracing with RTX graphics can significantly improve image quality. The frame rate (FPS) may suffer badly depending on the GPU. There's a trade-off between performance and getting the best graphics. That's why AI-assisted hardware options like DLSS 3.0 and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) are a great way to keep the frames high and the pictures sharp. GeForce RTX and AMD Radeon have integrated real-time ray tracing technology skillfully. With Xbox Game Pass, subscribers can enjoy many games with incredible new technology. What is ray tracing? Ray tracing is used in computer graphics to create more realistic and accurate images. It simulates the behavior of light in the real world by tracing the path of light rays as they interact with virtual objects in a scene. In traditional computer graphics, objects are typically drawn as flat polygonal shapes, with shading and lighting effects added to give the illusion of depth and volume. In contrast, ray tracing takes a more physically based approach by tracing the actual path of light as it bounces off objects and travels through the virtual scene. This results in more lifelike images with accurate shadows, reflections, and refractions. Ray tracing is computationally intensive and requires much processing power to perform in real time. However, it is often used in film and animation production, where the quality of the final image is more important than the rendering speed. You must have an Xbox Series X|S console or a compatible PC graphics card to enable ray tracing on a game. Once these requirements are met, you can enable ray tracing from within the game's settings menu. Game Pass Games With Ray Tracing Below is a list of all the Game Pass games with Ray-tracing. A Plague Tale: Requiem A Plague Tale: Requiem is a game set in the 14th century. It follows the story of two siblings, Amicia and Hugo, as they try to escape from the clutches of the Inquisition—the game features ray tracing mainly for shadows, which isn't very noticeable. The game looks gorgeous regardless, so I'm willing to look past its weak ray-tracing implementation. Ray Tracing Support (RTX Only) Shadows (RTX) Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S Anvil: Vault Breaker Anvil: Vault Breaker is a game set in the 25th century. It follows the story of a group of criminals who break into an impenetrable space station to steal its valuable contents—the game features ray tracing for reflections. Overall, the game is average, and any graphic improvements don't make it stand out. It's not one of the better Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Reflections Available On PC, Xbox Series X/S Atomic Heart Atomic Heart is a game set in an alternative USSR. It follows the story of an army Major who is sent to investigate a robot uprising at a remote facility—the game features ray tracing for shadows and reflections. Atomic Heart looks excellent, and the ray-tracing effects are used well to enhance the graphics without being overdone. It's one of the newest and best Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections (RTX) Available On PC Battlefield 2042 Battlefield 2042 is a game set in the future of the Battlefield franchise. It features ray tracing for ambient occlusion and reflections. It also supports the latest RTX features like Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and Nvidia Reflex. Ray tracing looks fantastic, but the RTX 3060 sometimes struggles with maxed-out settings. Ray Tracing Support Ambient Occlusion, Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S Battlefield V Battlefield V is a game set in World War II. It features ray tracing for reflections and shadows. The game also supports the latest RTX features like Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and Nvidia Reflex. I have not tried Battlefield V on my RTX 3060, but it would run better than Battlefield 2042 with similar settings. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections Available On PC Chorus Chorus is a game set in the 31st century. It follows the story of two pilots thrown into the middle of an intergalactic war. The game features ray tracing for reflections. It also supports DLAA and DLSS 2.0. Ray tracing looks great in Chorus and provides realistic reflections, but the game can be taxing on lower-end graphics cards. Ray Tracing Support Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S Deathloop Deathloop is a game set in an alternate reality. It follows the story of two assassins stuck in a time loop. The game features ray tracing for shadows and reflections. It also supports DLSS 2.0. Ray tracing looks great in Deathloop and provides realistic shadows and reflections. It's one of the more interesting Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S Dirt 5 Dirt 5 is a game set in the world of off-road racing. It features ray tracing for ambient occlusion, shadows, and reflections. I haven't played Dirt 5 since the ray tracing update, so I don't know how much better it makes the game look. Ray Tracing Support Ambient Occlusion, Shadows, Reflections Available On PC Doom Eternal Doom Eternal is a game set in the Doom universe. It features ray tracing for shadows and reflections. Doom Eternal with ray tracing shines in dark areas such as hallways and spaceship compartments. The game also supports Nvidia DLSS 2.0. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S Exoprimal Exoprimal is an exhilarating online action game that allows players to engage in team-based combat. In a world where advanced exosuit technology meets ferocious dinosaurs, players must utilize their skills and teamwork to overcome these formidable creatures. With stunning graphics and immersive gameplay, Exoprimal provides an adrenaline-fueled gaming experience. Choose your exosuit, join forces with other players, and prepare for epic battles against history's most fearsome beasts. Are you ready to test your mettle and save humanity from extinction? Ray Tracing Support Ambient Occlusion, Shadows, Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S Forza Horizon 5 Forza Horizon 5 is a racing game with a vast selection of cars. It features ray tracing for shadows and reflections. The game also supports Nvidia DLSS 2.0 and DLAA. Although the world isn't fully ray-traced, the cars look fantastic. The world being ray-traced doesn't make much sense when traveling at 200mph! If you like admiring cars, the photo mode alone makes this one of the best Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections Available On PC, Xbox Series X/S Gears 5 Gears 5 is a game set in the Gears of War universe. It features ray tracing for shadows and screen space illumination. The game also supports Microsoft's DirectX Ray-tracing API. The ray tracing is not hardware-based, so it's not entirely satisfying when running on an Nvidia RTX or AMD RX series graphics card. Ray Tracing Support Software-based shadow and screen space global illumination Available On PC, Xbox Series X/S Ghostwire: Tokyo Ghostwire: Tokyo is an action-adventure game set in a supernatural version of Tokyo. It features ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. The game aims to create a visually stunning and immersive experience with its unique art style and use of ray tracing technology. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections, Ambient Occlusion Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S Jurassic World Evolution 2 Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a game that lets you build your own Jurassic Park. It features ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and skylights. The game also supports Nvidia DLSS 3.0, DLSS 2.0, and DLAA. There's not a lot of difference in many of the game world elements and dinosaurs, but DLSS sure does a great job boosting the frame rate. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections, Sky Lights Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a game set in the Marvel universe. It features ray tracing for reflections and transparent reflections. It also supports DLSS 2.0. The reflections and shadows stand out on glass elements. The spaceship's interior reflecting on the glass while flying through space looks great! I recommend this as one of the better Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Reflections, Transparent Reflections Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a game set in the BattleTech universe. It features ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and light shafts. The main benefit of ray tracing for MechWarrior 5 is the shadows. They look great, and the game's impressive graphics are taken to the next level. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections, Light Shafts Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S Minecraft Minecraft is a game that features ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and global illumination. It also supports Nvidia DLSS 2.0. Minecraft with RTX enabled looks impressive, especially the water. The downside is you must find an RTX-enabled world on the marketplace to enable ray tracing. This is one of my favorite casual Game Pass games with ray tracing. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections, Global Illumination when on an RTX-Supported World Available On PC Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition is a game that features ray tracing for shadows. It also supports DLSS 2.0. The ray-tracing effects are minimal in this game. While some lighting elements (fire, flares) look improved, reflections and shadows are relatively the same. Ray Tracing Support Shadows Available On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna (maybe) Paradise Killer Paradise Killer is a game set on a tropical island. It features ray tracing for reflections. It also supports DLSS 2.0. The ray tracing in Paradise Killer is good, but the game's graphics are not as impressive as other ray tracing games. Ray Tracing Support Reflections (DirectX 12) Available On PC The Ascent The Ascent is a game set in a cyberpunk world. It features ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. The ray tracing in The Ascent is impressive, especially the shadows. It also supports DLSS 2.0. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections (DirectX 12), Ambient Occlusion (DirectX 12) Available On PC The Riftbreaker PC The Riftbreaker is a game that features ray tracing for shadows and reflections. The Riftbreaker's visuals are good, but the game's aesthetics pale compared to other ray-tracing video games. Ray Tracing Support Shadows, Reflections Available On PC Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a game set in the Warhammer 40k universe. It features ray tracing for reflections and global illumination. It also supports Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and DLSS 2.0. With full ray tracing enabled, Warhammer Darktide looks pretty awesome and is one of the best games on this list -- but it BSOD me a few times. I guess the RTX 3060 wasn't fully prepared or capable. Ray Tracing Support Reflections, Global Illumination Available On PC Reviving Older Games: The Exciting Possibilities of Ray Tracing! Ray-tracing is not just for new games. Some developers are dusting off the shelf and cleaning up some of their older yet beloved franchises. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one example. CD Projekt Red has released a ray tracing update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, breathing new life into the game's stunning world. With ray-traced shadows, reflections, and new 4K graphic updates, the already immersive experience of being a monster-slaying witcher becomes even more visually captivating. As Geralt traverses through lush forests, treacherous swamps, and bustling cities, the ray tracing technology adds more realism and depth to the game. The shadows cast by towering trees are now more lifelike as they accurately interact with the changing sunlight. The reflections on rippling water surfaces shimmer with stunning accuracy, making every moment spent exploring the vast open world a visual treat. But not just The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt benefits from ray tracing. Other older games, such as Minecraft, Crysis, and Control, have also received ray-tracing updates, allowing players to experience these beloved titles in a new light. In Minecraft, the blocky landscapes are transformed into breathtaking vistas with realistic lighting and shadows. Every ray of sunlight that filters through the trees casts intricate shadows, creating a truly immersive and atmospheric gameplay experience. In Crysis, the already visually stunning environments now boast even more realistic lighting and reflections. The game's iconic Nanosuit shines with even greater detail, making players feel like they're truly stepping into the shoes of a super-powered soldier. In Control, the eerie atmosphere of the Bureau of Control becomes even more haunting with ray tracing. The realistic reflections and shadows enhance the game's intricate architecture and supernatural elements, adding a layer of depth to every corner of the Bureau. Ray tracing has revolutionized the gaming industry, allowing developers to breathe new life into their older titles. It's an exciting time for gamers as they can revisit their favorite games and experience them in a new way. With the advent of ray tracing technology, games are taking on a new level of visual splendor.
